Stan Montalbo | Founder of Honu Experience
As a child, Stan Montalbo II dreamed of owning his own business. While in high school at James Logan in Union City, California, he participated in a program called CCTV (Closed Circuit Television). This program provided Stan and his peers the opportunity to operate the school’s television station, producing shows, videotaping events, and handling sound mixing for the campus theater. It was there that his passion for the industry was born.
He later continued honing his skills by working on short film productions with friends from San Francisco State University. His experience working at a local cell phone and pager company, where he helped expand the business from one store to eight, grounded him in the realities and challenges of running a successful enterprise.
In 1991, through a family connection, Stan was introduced to telephone and voicemail systems. In that role, he installed and maintained communication systems for small to medium-sized businesses, many of whom remain his customers to this day.
When the original owner retired, Stan took over the company and expanded its services to include home theater solutions. Today, he brings more than 20 years of professional experience to the creation of Honu Experience.
Many people have inquired about the name of the business. When playing baseball as a youth, one of Stan’s friends labeled him…
"The Turtle" for a lack of speed around the bases…
Growing up with turtles as pets, the nickname stayed with him. Many years later, the nickname evolved into “Da Honu,” a Hawaiian Pidgin term meaning “the sea turtle,” reflecting his Hawaiian heritage. When it came time to launch a business, there was only one name that felt authentic to both his story and his philosophy: Honu Experience.
His vision was to deliver a higher standard of service by creating a seamless, professional experience through skilled contractors, mirroring the calm precision and efficiency of sea turtles in their natural environment. Just as the ocean is home to the sea turtle, this industry is his professional home. Through this approach, Honu Experience aims to set a new standard and reputation in contracted services.
